Nestled east of Tamiami Trail just north of the booming Rosemary District is little-talked-about historic area of Central Cocoanut. But we want to tell you there is something to talk about. The cozy collection of homes in Central Cocoanut are eclectic in structure, era, style, and flair: it is a landscape dotted with Craftsman cottages with adorable porches and bright doors, cute-as-a-button Spanish Mission bungalows with sun parlors and stained glass transoms, wrap around porches, a few folk Victorians, and some subtle mid-century modern homes.
Attention people who enjoy character homes: This is the neighborhood for you! Gone is the limiting “pick your model” cookie-cutter feel from this area! Many homes in this neighborhood have been restored to exude their original 1920s to 1950s sparkle, but with added modern amenities and lifestyle adaptions. Some are ripe for the picking for an adventurous homeowner who wants to pull back out the classic beauty of one that become outdated or fallen into disrepair.
Central Cocoanut is located in the northwest quadrant of Sarasota. It is adjacent to the Rosemary District. Central Cocoanut is designated a US historic district. The district is located between 11th and 22 Streets and Tamiami Trail and the railroad tracks.
The neighborhood is extremely walkable. Follow Central to the Rosemary district with many new shops and cafes. And in a few more steps you are in downtown proper.
Right in the Central Cocoanut neighborhood itself is a collection of shops that are fun to explore on an easy afternoon: You can get private pottery lessons at Miri Hardy Pottery, poke around for special finds at Sarasota Architectural Salvage, or buy some Cool Used Stuff!
There are also plenty of dining options for the residents of Central Cocoanut, Sarasota. You can grab your morning cup of coffee from Coffee Carrousel, Kahwa Coffee, or Bombon Cafe.
